The Pirate Ship never seems to lose it popularity as a sorting activity. And with

he ability to create a list in SMARTBoard software, they are quick and easy to

produce. If you need, just let me know.

SMARTBoard and Arrays

Here’s a quick demonstration on arrays that might be helpful for your students.  You can use the infinite clone tool - that allows the students to create as many objects as they need!  You can follow the SMARTBoard Youtube channel to get notifications of new videos.

The only screen you will need

When I saw this screen on Facebook- well, what more could you want? Besides the clock, timer, name picker, sound check- there are also work symbols and an easy exit ticket tool (students walk by and just tap their vote!).  That’s not enough? There are drawing tools, traffic lights, QR code, and different backgrounds. It is easy to use and all in one place! Please see Classroomscreen to help organize your board!

Who says I'm too young for the SMARTBoard?

I spent some time with the Project Before educators as part of the Drop-In training for the SMART Notebook 17.  Casey Pollard shared these photos of her students working the SMARTBoard!  It just shows you are never too young to use technology in the classroom. As Casey shared, "They had so much fun sorting the letters and numbers. We also used the Magic Hat and they loved it! ".

SMARTBoard for the very young

Imagine a group of preschoolers actively participating in a SMARTBoard lesson. From
using clues to uncover the hidden object to sorting colors and shapes,
these students had a great time.

Shout it out!

Shout it out! is one of my favorite new SMART Notebook activities- it gives voice to all students.You will find this under the SMARTLab (the little blue monster). Here’s a quick video. (Just as an FYI- everyone has access to this latest SMART Notebook via your virtual desktop.)

Here’s another video showing a SMART Lab activity.  This time, they use the dice to select the next students- but your students could complete this activity on their own device as well.  This reminds me of the older sorter activities.

Have your students create a monster!

So which monster will win? Since everyone in the district  has the new SMARTBoard software (it’s on the virtual desktop), all your students need is a device (chromebook or tablet) and they can join in the Monster Quiz game.

All you need to do is create the quiz (please see the video below for step by step directions), have your students join the class and go!  This SMART Lab activity works for both True/False and Multiple Choice questions.

Do you have a magic hat?

This past week the district held the first TEQ training sessions.  Special thanks to Tom Schwartz from TEQ his SMARTBoard expertise.  The next day, Judy Perone shared these photos of her students playing a game she had created in class!    “I love the magic hat for names- the kids all waited to see whose name popped out!  Such fun!”
