Not your Mother’s Animoto

I’ve been a big Animoto Fan for yours and will admit I haven't used it lately.  I was

a fan of their slideshows and really never explored their other options.  But they

have made some changes and now with Animoto 3, there are many templates

and options for your students.  You no longer have to renew your educator

account every 6 months and you can still create accounts for students under

13 (using the gmail+ method).  The design options have increased and are

easy to use. That’s the good news.  On the other side, all Animotos (unless

you have a paid account) come with a fairly large watermark, and there

seem to be fewer free resources(both images and music).

While I like the new options (filters, multiple images, templates), I think for
younger learners I would start with the Animoto memories. There are more
photos on the site and fewer choices.

Animoto 3 would be a perfect fit for older learners (grades 4 and up).
My sample here is made with a template and walks you through the process.

Planning and Animoto

Animoto is clearly one of those “oldie by goodie” sites for video creation.  It is easy to use and free. Richard Byrne (Free Technology for Teachers) has some planning insight here that will make your students’ work more meaningful.

Ladybugs and Animoto

Here is an insect animoto from Robin Read's talented K-1 students.

Animoto makes books come alive!

Tina Quintas’ 6th grade students ended the year by creating an animoto book trailer!  When we were finished, they created an Aurasma so other students (in the library) could see their work (and hopefully read the book!).  Below are samples of their work.

My Favorite Animoto

Every year the Project Before teams hosts a Valentine event for their students.  And the resulting animoto is always one of the most popular posts!  Special thanks to Miss Jackie for this wonderful video!

Animoto in the science classroom

Enjoy this animoto created from The Human Experience class in the high school. Each student needed to create an animoto on an infectious disease. Special thanks to Brittany D. for sharing.

Spring in Animoto

Spring might be just around the corner, but Lisa Payne’s fourth grade students used animoto to confirm signs of spring. Lisa mentioned numerous students used the animoto gallery making this a very efficient use of classroom time and producing these informative videos.

Third Grade Publishers

So what’s in your writer’s toolbox?  Miss Reagan’s third graders shared their writing secrets as well as four of their published works at a Publishers Tea.  Parents were invited to read excerpts from their projects and had an opportunity to ask the young authors some questions.  Below are two animotos from this special event. (Just as an FYI- I made these using the animoto app- it was very easy to upload the images from my phone and then I just edited.  It was so quick, I had the video ready for the students by the time the parents were leaving the tea!)

Children's Cursade from the eyes of a child

Students can employ technology to construct powerful projects and display their understanding. Special thanks to Pam Chartock and Alexandria for this stirring animoto.
