Tired of the same old words?

Use Word Hippo to help you students replace those tired words (you know the ones).  Just enter the word and see the results.  Want to go further? You can then click on one of the new words and get even more synonyms.   You can also use Word Hippo to locate opposites.  The site does contain advertising.

Vocabulary games

Here’s a fun activity (and it will even keep track of your score) to practice your vocabulary.  Vocabulary offers multiple choice questions and chances for you to learn new words.  There is a free (as well as subscription version)- I only used the free option.  This could work as stations or as a whole group on a whiteboard.

What's the word? Know it?

What if I give you a definition or two and then even give you the first letter of the word- can you fill in the blank?  Find out by playing Knoword.  Select your grade level and let the fun begin.  The clock will count down and you opt to skip a word.  If you don’t get the correct answer, it will be shown after the time expires.

I think this could be interesting on an interactive whiteboard and having the students play in teams.
