New ELL Resources in Discovery Education

As part of their September product release, Discovery Education now has new ELL resources.  ...the new English Language Learner (ELL) Center provides additional professional learning, resources, and instructional support for educators to differentiate learning for their ELL students in online, hybrid, and in-class environments.

Find ready-to-use instructional strategy templates and engaging, relevant content collections to incorporate into lessons, including Virtual Field Trips, podcasts, audiobooks, and native language support.

Something for English Language Learners

Here’s a website dedicated to English Language learners.  You can find a

variety of activities and use filters to search based on content area

and grade level.

ESL and Drama= Perfect Together

Here’s a site filled with ideas for ESL (and I think it could be adapted for ELA classroom)

to use in your classroom.  From script writing, reader theatre, and improvisation,

there is something for everyone. Check out Drama in the ESL classroom.

Kittens and Dolch words

How fast can your kitten find the sight word? Find out on Kitten Hop!  The faster you respond, the quicker your kitty jumps- see if you can reach the couch first!  This would be a great game for the SMARTBoard.  You can play against others or create a private game for members only.

For older learners learning English

Skillwise is a BBC site geared to older learners (grade 7 and up) to learn English.  It includes games, activities, and videos.  This is an adult learner site as well so you might want to preview the material before sharing with students.

Learn English is a site that would work for anyone learning English.  It includes videos, audio, and activities.  It also includes grammar and reading activities.

Unite for Literacy

Here’s a free site with books for young learners- Unite for Literacy.  And yes, it does read to you.  But even better, you can request one of 16 languages (from Arabic to Vietnamese).  This might be a tool for our ELL students as well as students learning foreign languages.
