Pi Day is coming

As a former science teacher, Pi Day was always one of my favorites and I was part of several awesome teams where we celebrated Pi with our students across the content areas! I remember one year creating a paper chain (with each number a different color) and then challenging students to find a pattern!   If you are looking for Pi Day resources, please consider the curated list from TeachersFirst. Even though Pi Day (3.14)  was on Sunday, it’s never too late to celebrate a mathematical concept!.  When I taught fifth grade, this was a favorite team holiday (from pi theme poems, using oranges  (and calculating surface area) to real pies!).  If you are looking for resources, please see the Teachers First resource here.

Eric Curts has shared a creative way to create a Pi poem using his Google Template (Please click here for the complete post including the template).  In his post, he walks you through the process to create a poem based on the number sequence in Pi.  I bet you could think of ways to modify his template and create poems based on other number or dates.
